According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), 2017 ended with a 5.1 percent decrease in criminal offenses compared to 2016. Property crime went down by 5.3 percent, and violent crime declined by 3.6 percent. Robberies decreased as well. In 2017, there were 2,017 reported offenses, compared to 2,120 in 2016.
