Campus Shooting Threat Dismissed

On behalf of Randall & Stump, PLLC in on Wednesday, February 6, 2019

Our client, a young man, suffering from depression, went to the doctor with his mother. While at the doctor’s office, he allegedly made some comments relating to shooting up his college. The doctor reported this. Soon after, he visited a friend at another college, which caused people to worry, although his friend confirmed he was there to visit her. The FBI, Homeland Security, and campus police got involved and searched his apartment. Ultimately, they found a blueprint of an evacuation plan in the event of a mass shooting.

Our client was then charged with false reporting of mass violence on education property, which is a very serious felony. Facing between four and 25 months in custody if convicted, our Charlotte criminal defense lawyers knew what was on the line for their young client. Our attorneys fiercely negotiated on his behalf, and ultimately, secured a dismissal without ever appearing in court.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
