Too many motorcycle accidents caused by drunk car drivers

Motorcycle riders in North Carolina are typically exposed to more dangers than occupants of automobiles. Without the protection of the body of the vehicle, seat belts, airbags and other features that keep motorists safe, bikers are incredibly vulnerable. Along with having to face these risks, impaired vehicle operators also pose significant hazards that could cause devastating motorcycle accidents.

One of many such crashes in which a driver of a car is suspected of being drunk occurred on a recent Sunday evening. Traffic investigators say the accident that happened in Gastonia and caused road closures that stretched into Monday morning. Although the circumstances believed to have caused the accident were not reported, a preliminary report indicates that the motorcycle was struck by the car.

Reportedly, both the biker and the passenger on the motorcycle suffered life-threatening injuries. They were transported to the hospital. Authorities say that speed is not believed to have played a role in this accident. However, alcohol might have caused the crash. The driver was arrested, and that person is now facing drunk driving charges.

Whenever serious injuries are suffered in motorcycle accidents, the victims have to cope with mounting medical bills and lost wages. Because bikers are so exposed, crash injuries are often catastrophic and could result in disabilities. While any victim can proceed with a personal injury lawsuit against a negligent driver, some find they receive more comprehensive coverage of damages by utilizing the support and guidance of an experienced North Carolina personal injury attorney. A lawyer can work on recovering not only those damages already suffered but also the future loss of income and other expected financial consequences.
