Federal Drug Trafficking Sentence Reductions

Motions for sentence reductions under 18 U.S.C. § 3582(c)(2) and retroactive application of guideline provisions have been gaining ground under the current administration.

In its most recent proposed guideline amendments, the United States Sentencing Commission would allow for retroactive application of sentencing guideline amendments to persons serving federal sentences for drug trafficking. It is important to speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney before submitting any motion to the Court for a sentence reduction.

Unless disapproved by Congress, the latest round of United States Sentencing Commission amendments will come into effect on November 1, 2014. If Congress declines to strike down the amendments, the flood gates will open to allow for current inmates in custody for drug trafficking offenses to file for a sentence reduction, which you or a loved one may be able to benefit from.

It is important to hire a skilled and knowledgeable defense lawyer if you or a loved one is interested in obtaining a sentence reduction for a drug trafficking conviction. It is important your attorney have the expertise and immediately dedicate the time to your case to ensure the best possible outcome.
